Job Title: HSE Coordinator

Location: North York, ON

Description:

The Health & Safety Coordinator will provide guidance, assistance, and development to operational leadership in areas of safe work process, health & safety policy implementation, legislative requirements, training requirements, and inspections. Provide expertise and mentoring in the area of occupational health and safety. Ensure appropriate safety training, practices, policies, and procedures are in place to avoid preventable health and safety occurrences. Safety Field Leadership:

  • Work with the Business Management Teams to ensure implementation and ongoing improvement of safety, health, and loss control processes and systems within our Toronto and Ottawa operations.
  • Provide ongoing, in-field coaching to operations on legislative and corporate safety requirements and expectations.
  • Coach, guide, and assist site personnel in understanding their responsibilities related to management of safety, health, and loss control issues.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and proactive relationship with site management, employees, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct project and office inspections, reviews and maintain up to date information on day to day H&S operations.

Health & Safety Systems:

  • Participate in the effective execution and delivery of safety programs and communications to support Renokrew in the Health and Safety Management system.
  • Perform investigations, identify root causes, assess current controls and implement effective solutions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Identify system, program, and training needs and ensure they are in line with the requirements of the HSMS.
  • Maintain and communicate through our HSE digital management system, SiteDocs.
  • Develop and maintain an ISO compliant H&S Program.
  • Conduct Internal COR/ISO audits and assist the firm with ongoing certifications.
  • Assist with follow-up on audit recommendations to ensure all items have been completed on time and assist with removing any barriers to completion.
  • Support site management to ensure the early and safe return to work for injured employees.
  • Prepare project start-up documentation and maintain all supplementary health and safety documents (including waste management, abatement, emergency plans, traffic control plans, fall protection plans etc.).
  • Develop and maintain tracking systems for assets management.
  • Coordinate and chair HSE initiatives, seminars, leadership days.
  • Participate and assist in the development and sourcing of new safety products ensuring effectiveness, consistency, and financial prudence.

Safety Training:

  • Develop and deliver safety-related training modules and programs reflective of applicable legislative requirements and corporate safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Perform all new hire orientations specific to their job classification and in line with organizational requirements.
  • Updating all training regularly to ensure it remains in line with current practices, procedures and MLITSD legislative requirements.
  • Chair and organize quarterly and yearly HSE meetings company wide. Develop agendas, minutes and relevant supporting materials.

Data Analytics

  • Responsible for quantitative and qualitative analysis to monitor and measure OH&S performance.
  • Collecting and reviewing all key performance indicators both site specific and organization wide to identify trends, gaps and recommend preventative measures.
  • Collection, analysis, and distribution of health and safety information. Development of custom reporting to present statistical information in a meaningful format.
  • Development and tracking of health and safety action plans and organization safety objectives.
  • Assist management with reviewing Improvement Plan objectives, identifying improvement areas, and developing action plans.

Relationships with Other Jobs:

  • Work closely with site-level and unit-level management on the implementation of Health and Safety Management Systems, Processes, and Training.
  • Engaging, coaching, and influencing the site, area, and functional leaders with the health and safety activities and processes with an aim of 75% of “face time” in the field within the area of responsibility.
  • Determine Business Unit priorities and developing policies/procedures.
  • Interface with peers in other areas in the development of programs and systems.
  • Assist Human Resources / Labour Relations on new hires and the safety and loss control aspects.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Ability to work flexible hours as dictated by the requirements of the position, including extra time at peak intervals
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple activities
  • Mature attitude and ability to work effectively independent of supervision

  • Timely and sound decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with various computer applications is a definite asset.
  • Sound knowledge of provincial Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulation and standards.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2-5 years of relevant safety or industry experience
  • Relevant University degree or equivalent experience (i.e Safety, Industrial Health, or Risk management) an asset
  • Knowledge of Hazard Control Models and Risk Management an asset
  • Certified COR Auditor, with experience with COR internal audits and reviews.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001
  • Previous construction experience required.
  • Experience of digital compliance systems (SiteDocs) an asset.
  • CRSP designation would be an asset.
  • NCSO designation would be an asset.

In the role of Site Supervisor, you will be responsible for planning and direction of construction activities. You will also promote, enforce, and maintain a sound working knowledge of environmental and health and safety as per Renokrew’s Health and Safety Program.

Key Accountabilities

  • Accurately monitor that quantities remaining to complete the project in the estimate are sufficient to complete the project in the field
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and internal H&S and Environmental policies and procedures in daily operations.
  • Must be certified and well versed in Infection Control
  • Ensure quality of all work completed, monitoring sub-contractors’ materials and workmanship
  • Coordinate Renokrew workforce and sub-trades on site.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are adequately supplied
  • Enforce quality control and conformance with specifications
  • Measure and record quantities to date as required and report quantities weekly and monthly
  • Assist subcontractor(s) in scheduling their work and provide direction where necessary
  • Complete three week look ahead schedule on timely basis
  • Perform site layout and ensure accuracy
  • Maintain construction drawing log and as built drawings
  • Continuous review of Contract Drawings to identify discrepancies between various disciplines

Education & Skill Requirements
